Bonsa Spar officially adopted Shaka the Lion at Chipangali on 1st February 2014 and have continued to sponsor him ever since.
Shaka was one of four cubs and was born on our president’s birthday. He was raised and stayed at the house in Chipangali by Nicky Wilson and her family until he was 14 months old. He was placed in his own cage in the Orphanage.
Shaka has the most fantastic mane that goes down to the middle of his back and all the way down his tummy to the top of his back legs. This beautiful mane coverage is similar to the coverage of the extinct Barbary or Cape lion but obviously Shaka is only a throw back and is not a direct line to these beautiful extinct lion sub species.
He was moved into his new enclosure and has 4 lovely lionesses to his beck and call and thankfully all of them have had contraceptive chips put into them.
After having a contraceptive chip put in, his mane was not as dark or as full as it should be. However, this returns after a couple of months when he should be at his peak.
INTERESTING FACT: Did you know that if contraceptive chips are placed in male lions they loose their manes but once it gets out of their system the manes do grow back.
